"Not a good career move - VSHP/BCBST."

What do you like about working at Blue Cross Blue Shield?

"I like the great 401k plan and good training when I started (poor follow-up training since). I like the good, stable name that people look to."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"It is easy to get in. General interviewing techniques are used. Act happy and health-oriented."

What don't you like about working at Blue Cross Blue Shield?

"I dislike the poor management, and that they do take any advice from the employees at all. It is very unorganized, as far as VSHP is concerned. My job is not an entry level position. I had to have a lot of knowledge to get to my position, and I have learned a great deal more since starting. About a year ago, they changed it to where we were being paid less than the entry level CSR (call center/phone) position was being paid, AND, they told all the new trainees that we were paid less to try and keep them from wanting to move up and out of the CSR position. They also went behind our backs, changed our job description to include helping out the CSRs, and they forced us to take phones calls while being paid less then the CSR. Since when does someone with MORE knowledge make less moneyAs a whole, BCBST is very focused on employee health. We are forced to have a bio-metric screening done and the results are given yearly. If we do not wish to participate, then they take a $25 fee out of your bi-weekly paycheck. The food available is health-oriented, so therefore, expensive and bland. If you want more unhealthy foods, there is not much available, and expect to pay about double for it. The campus has signs everywhere about being healthy and getting into shape, and not a single one is actually oriented to doing a good job. I made more money in my health wellness bonus than I do for my actual job! There is no focus at all from the company about performance, unless it's bad, it seems. Management is all smiles and happy all the time, but it generally does not come across as genuine."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get rid of pretty much everyone and start fresh. Listen to the employees, because we are the ones out there doing it every day, and we know exactly what is going on and what needs to change."
