"Retail may not be for everyone however, always seem greater opportunities, like being a part of a support team."
"I worked for Macy's for 3 years from 2011-2014. It was my first time working in a department store setting, I had always managed specialty retail stores. I learned a lot, but in a store that large and busy, there are a lot of missed opportunities for new managers. Also, in an organization that large there was always lots of wasted time for planning meetings and things that took time away from important things like customer service, staff training or visual merchandising."
"I've worked here for 10+ years. I've listed some developer-mindset observations based on my experience. - Work culture has shifted to sink-or-swim and "walking on egg-shells." - Average work break-down: 70% meetings/docs, 20% supporting chronic issues, 10% new dev. - Growing number of weak and inexperienced managers. Recent experience... a core retail support systems manager asked, "what is a department/vendor?" - High-performers = babysit others. - Below average facility: cube farm, lines in bathrooms."
"Macy's is not the best place to work for. Its one thing if you're in school and its just to get by, but when you're looking to advance and display real skills and expertise, its not the place for you. I have worked for Macy's for 3 years, have a degree, and experience in retail as well as management. I have helped more than double the sales for one of the smallest stores in the market and have helped trained several of the store's managers, but was never given the opportunity to become one."
"Hard work is not appreciated at Macy's. The work environment is reminiscent of high school, where managers' favorite employees advance in the company regardless of merit or experience. The pay is atrocious for such thankless work. Employee morale is often low. It's a great place to work for the holidays as a temp. Outside of this, a career at Macy's should be avoided at all costs."
"The place gets stuff done in an extremely slow pace. Teams are poorly connected."
"If you want to work in retail there are probably better companies out there to work for, but Macy's also isn't the worst I've seen. The biggest problem is that they expect the sales supervisors to do everything the sales managers are doing but for a fraction of the pay. And that includes running the store which should really be the job of the store manager. The problem is that the store manager is stuck on conference calls and answering emails all day."
"I worked for Macy's for about a year. I had a good experience working there."
"I worked with Macy's for four months during the summer of 2011. The companies work methods were good and I learned how to be an excellent sales representative and how to sell a product to a customer. The job was easy to understand and I was willing to work harder in order to move up in the company. Macy's was very willing to help my raise my status in the company."
"I've been dealing with Macy's Inc for majority of my career."
"Macy's provides excellent benefits and a professional environment."
"I've worked for Macy's for 2 years roughly and it isn't a terrible place to work. The people are kind and the management listens to their employees. The biggest problems is compensation. This is the leading cause of turnover that I've encountered, and if pay was more competitive they would have employees staying much longer than they currently do."
"I've worked for Macy's for almost a year. I love the fact that they are willing to work around my life and help me with living it. Very easy to drop or pick up shifts. People at Macy's are easy to get along with."
"I've worked at Macy's in the Receiving Department for about 6 months. The hours you work is mostly dependent on if the store gets a truck per week. So you could work for as little as one to five days a week. I have coworkers who have worked there for a couple years and still haven't gotten a raise. If working at Macy's, I think any department besides Receiving would be good. You wouldn't be as restricted as other departments."
"Macy's takes advantage of senior and new immigrants and has them working for literally decades with a zero raise. I love all of my coworkers but the management just cares about numbers. Slave labor in Bangladesh fills the coffers the elitist CEO."
