"Staples provided a good environment to grow as a young professional, and gave me the tools needed to really develop my current skillset and grow new talents. Management had a strong focus on their current employees, but would often times favor other employees based on geographical location. Overall, a good workplace, great co-workers, and good compensation. Major con would be one of my direct supervisors being a bit more of a party goer than I was, which would cause issues when I didn't want to go out to bars after a long work-day (this was frowned upon in the high-pressure sales environment)."

"If you don't have a college degree it is an alright job, but otherwise don't bother."

"I'm happy to have worked at Staples. What started as a company with a great work environment and simple goals became a company with too many expectations, not enough employees, and overly complicated procedures. I'm sure every store will vary but the employees and supervisors at my store were great. Unfortunately, the experience was tainted by the unstable vision of the company."

"I worked with the company for well over a decade and found that the local management was very good, but the executive leadership at HQ did not understand, nor were they interested in knowing, what it takes to get any job done."

"I have worked at Staples for 2 yrs and I have it to be an OK place to work, there could be a lot more that could be done when it comes to team members. I strongly believe that an associate must be treated with respect and protected, but generally it's a good place to be and grow to succeed if that is your goal."

"Staples focuses not on people but on using people. They use their sales help and technicians as stock boys and stock girls, they select people for management based only on how well they will support their overall greed, which is most evident in the company ATTITUDE. Some people have said only work there part time. If you have any hopes of developing yourself in personal and customer relations; try a company like Western Digital; who is known for excellent customer service."

"The goals that are set are just unrealistic!! As a manager, staples expects that we bombard our associates with all these sales goals for tech ans Squaretrade and expects that we take progressive counseling for them to get better. As a manager I try my best to inspire associates and make them the best they can be. But it gets hard to stay positive when I'm threatened everyday to be fired because of a sales goals. MOBILE PHONES WAS A MISTAKE AND STAPLES IS GOING TO LOSE A LOT OF GOOD MANAGERS!!!"

"As a offshore contractor, I'm not able to propose many of the ideas that can improve performance or design, and we're very limited of what can do by IT policies. i.e. No Internet access which can be frustrating when we need to include new maven dependencies to the project."

General Manager

"I've worked for Staples since 2005, when starting with the company I was a cashier. After 1 yr I looked for advancement opportunities which was when I got into selling. For 3 yrs I was the top salesperson, which was when I got into the Manager Program. After 1 1/2 yrs I was promoted to Sales Manager after driving sales and growing our tech business for 2 yrs I was backed by my district manager to get into the General Manager Program within 5 months of entering the program I was promoted."

General Manager

"I've worked for Staples for the last eight years. In that time I moved from being a part time associate to General Manager. When it comes to work I am extremely motivated and will work as hard as I need to, to get the job accomplished. As far as sales I was the top sales person in my district for three years in a row."

"I enjoy my current job as a part-time computer technician, but the opportunity to move up in the company from this position is highly unlikely and usually overlooked. I feel more like a glorified tech salesman at times rather than an actual computer technician because of the need to make weekly sales. The knowledge gap between two technicians at different locations may range from a beginner to an experienced MCSE and CISCO experienced student working a part-time job. Overall its good for school."

"I worked for 5 years hoping to improve the work environment, however Staples was not interested in spending money to improve. They wanted sales people and not real techs. They provided very little tools, many of which I had to bring from home just to do my job (but staples did not approve of unauthorized tools) in reality you could not do much repairs using only their tools. The pay was the worst for such a position, they also expected unrealistic sales goals that you had to juggle with repairing computers, helping people find stuff like pens etc, cashiering, and merchandising. Basically you had to do the job of 5 employees, while trying to make sales goals and repair computers. Staples uses 3rd parties to try and repair PC's, so they can do as little as possible and get the most money. In short, Staples was the worst job I have ever had the displeasure of working for. You would be better off at Microcenter, Fry's or Best Buy."

"I have worked at Staples for 4 years now and I have managed to move up the chain pretty decently. The management is awesome and very good at getting you requested time off. The small work place makes it easy to manage. For the regular staff, the pay is pretty poor. If you make your way to management then the juice is worth the squeeze."
