"The Dayton site is a great place to gain experience on a multitude of projects. Multitasking is a must, as it is one of the leanest places I've worked at. Be upfront, and don't be afraid to ask the hard questions."
What don't you like about working at DuPont?
"Upper management seems to be disconnected with the employees and the strengths of the site in terms of the business model. Ultimately, it was this disconnect, and the resulting lack of available upward mobility that led to my leaving for another employer. The DuPont corporation purchased the Dayton plant about 6 years ago, but have never really made an effort to bring it into the fold or truly make it feel like an integral part of the DuPont organization. One glaring example of this was that it took 5 years to get on the DuPont insurance and pension plans. Of course when the Dayton site was finally incorporated, it was the first year that they had discontinued benefits for retirees; sparking speculation that the 5 year delay was intentional to avoid having to pay for the retirees from the Dayton site."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Suggestions for management would be to actually listen to the employees, instead of staying at arms-length away and taking the stance of management knows what is best. The employees on the floor everyday know the equipment and processes like the back of their hands and know what is and is not possible to run in the equipment. Also, the employees hear the customer complaints and have unheard solutions to the ongoing problems. On top of all this, proper compensation and rewards for outstanding employees is a requirement to building and sustaining a top notch workforce."
