"I'm very concerned the industry is tanking. Some days I feel like I boarded the Titanic. It's frustrating that it takes so long for people to realize that the old way won't work."

"I would hire more young reporters, allowing for more time on projects, upgrade equipment, get rid of people who are no longer qualified, be more assertive, don't let ad money dictate content"

"The complete lack of empowerment of employees to do what they feel is right. Also the inability to change the organization to meet the needs of the real customers is incredibly frustrating."

"If I were running the show, I would build the company to be a profit generating agency and not a pump and dump shop where half the staff are salespeople."

"Have a plan. Get in and get out. This is a good job for someone in transition because of the flexability. Great for students."

What don't you like about working at Gannett Co.?

"The good things are what make it a bad work envirorment. Reps have too much freedom and no discipline and no action. No real responsibility. Management is not on the same page. Its like playing your parents against each other but at work. Nobody seems to care and the bug has officially bitten me and I dont like that. My job performance sucks to me and I havent had a word said to me about it. Its not challanging enough."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Make things more organized and follow office protical. Keep office moral up with compensation vs. minor day games with minor gift cards and wasted decorations and meals. Pay more and expect more while keeping a positive fun atmosphere."

"The workflow is generally not overly rushed and there are sufficient resources available."

"The resources are dwindling and the problem is exacerbated by poor management."

"Everything. Stop genericizing all properties and understaffing papers to stop the death spiral."
