"A truly terrible place to work. I worked for one of their subsidiaries, and while it might be a good place to work if you're "smart" enough to succeed, it will only be to the detriment of the other store employees and the community at large. C&S is such a big corporation that they lose sight of what their actually doing when acquiring a large chain retailer. They're supposed to be serving the community, but instead they're so focused on profit that they're running their grocery stores into the ground. They don't pay well enough in this day and age for someone who doesn't live with their parents and/or takes government assistance to work there. The facilities are disgusting, the standards are slipping, and upper management doesn't give a f-word about their stores or employees. Their store workforce is mostly comprised of teenage girls because they can't hold on to an employee who isn't a manager, due to their unwillingness to pay a decent hourly wage. So the solution upper-management floats is; to hire prisoners on work release, to work with the high school girls. They're either actively trying to drive down prices to the detriment of their starting level employees, or they're purposely trying to run their stores into the ground. Either that or their a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're doing. HEY BOOMERS, RETIRE! SERIOUSLY RETIRE. YOUR THE WORST GENERATION EVER. IAN RAND WAS WRITING A FICTIONAL DYSTOPIAN NOVEL, NOT AN ECONOMIC PLAYBOOK THAT SHOULD HAVE ANY BERING ON THE REAL WORLD, YOU F-ING IDIOTS. When I was young the grocery store jobs in my hometown were highly sought after, because they were good jobs that paid well with decent benefits. They served our community, a community that you've never been to. That you'll never know about, and you're ruining one of the pillars of our community with your greed. RETIRE, BOOMERS! And to all the other corporate succubi that don't allow themselves to feel ashamed, this is exactly why sociopaths should be in management."
"I’ve worked at various C&S locations including two Grocer Supply facilities. Both companies are committed to providing exceptional customer service at competitive rates."
"C&S is currently undergoing tremendous change. They recently laid off hundreds of people, some of whom were with the company for less than a year."
"I worked for C&S Wholesale Grocers for over 10 years working my way up from entry level to upper management. This is a company that will allow anyone who is willing to move up into the management team."
"Great company to work. Lots of growth opportunities if you are smart."
"Worked with C&S Since 2015"
"Aggressive hourly employees, HIGH TURNOVER Management as well as hourly employees. Long hours because of call-outs (management as well as hourly employees) No Life work balance, scheduled meetings without no consideration of management that worked off-going shifts, meeting sometimes canceled with no notification. No growth potential, some tenured management employees not paid on current scale (underpaid) while new management members are giving higher salaries coming in the door. Theft of personal property and lunches is the norm if you leave them in the common areas. Unresponsive upper management as well as HR department to ongoing security and safety risks. Night-shift employees coming back from lunch under the influence of drugs and sometimes alcohol. Unsafe Work Environment."
"Family based company fast paced long hours"
"The company is going through a lot of changes."
"Left another employer to come here with the hope that hard work and strong work ethic would be key in growing within the company. It couldn’t have been further from the truth. Besides questionable practices by the company overall & immediate supervisor, manager and some others, the day to day became more than any decent person could take. Enjoyed working with many of those in my department Office politics & rampant favoritism was a downer."
