"I worked in the NCC for a little under 3 years but, in that short time, I learned that things were structured very well, but I don't consider that a problem with the NCC as opposed to a problem with the military, or maybe just the Air Force. All throughout my training, there was a large attempt to drill the idea of camaraderie and wingmanship, but this is far from the way the real Air Force is. When you get out there, you have to be your own wingman."

"Interviewing for the Air Force is simple. See a recruiter and sign up. However, don't join without guaranteeing your career field. Also, start working on your fitness now. Not after you've joined."

What don't you like about working at United States Air Force?

"I don't like that there is a limit to the length of time one can serve. I am forced to retire, but I would love to serve my country for many more years."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be a servant leader. Subordinates really like when a manager is willing to get in the weeds of the business and show that they know a lot about that which they are making decisions."

"Civil Air Patrol is a great company to work for, but the opportunity for growth here is very limited."

"Do some research on the company before the interview. Be confident, relaxed and honest."

"Great benefits, and the fact that you are not micro managed. Flexible hours (i.e., 4-day work week is an option)."
