"I've worked at Altera for over 15 years. The company has solid financials and products that provide significant stability. You are highly unlikely to be caught in mass layoffs. Management is generally quite professional and the atmosphere in the company is quite friendly. Work hours are not excessive in most teams. That said, Altera's product lines have been weak vs. competitors recently, which has hurt the stock price and limited bonus and salary growth vs. peer companies. Company is likely entering a rough patch and turnover has accelerated due to the issues."

Altera is leader in designing advanced programmable devices (Field Programmable Gate Arrays, FPGAs) that are used in major industries including Automotive, Military Communications, and Robotics. "You need to work your ass off in order to be happy and succeed here, don't expect automation or state of the art tools and support, no short cut here and will be a bumpy ride to success, take it or leave it!"

What don't you like about working at Altera Corp?

"Superior don't really understand the root of problems, outdated tools of often makes employee unhappy and wasting unnecessary extra time on projects, seniors are very egocentric and closed minded, with bad attitude and doing micromanagement, no team spirit at all with minimum team work."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"listen to the opinion and complain from employee, and really make an effort to make things different, but not just listen and beat around the bush and ask employee to solve their own problem, Need to step into the employee shoe, no one likes to complain."

"Explain to them you can learn fast if you do not have the skill set for that job."

What don't you like about working at Altera Corp?

"Seeing a lot more politics going around. Recent years it started bell-curve performance and causing mangers now to seek someone as scapegoat for low-performers. 1st level managers lack of managerial skills. They always make you feel how fortunate you are to get a bonus. By the way, meeting your goals does not mean you will get a bonus or any monetary reward."

"Focus on rewarding than to find something to penalize a employee."
