3This could be a fantastic place to work - unfortunately, it no longer is. Middle management micro-manages everyone, whether the workers are on their team or not. There is a huge disconnect between the highly trained and skilled employees (there is an intensive month-long training class before ever stepping out onto the reservations floor) and management who treats their teammates like children. Upper management are outdated and self-serving. Although the company states that it has an open-door policy with management, if you bring any grievance to their attention you are branded as a troublemaker and are passed over for promotions and FAM trips.
On a positive note, the people that they hire are fantastic, fun, interesting, hard-working people. If management would stop micro-managing and trust the great people that they've hired, and replace some upper management positions for more modern, relevant managers who supported those under them and took advice from those in the trenches, the culture would improve dramatically. Management has favorites and only kiss-asses are promoted.
The management I worked with has long gone, as has most of the team. However, I would suggest that Apple unify their development and project SDLC methodologies from three (charter plane company, travel infrastructure including web building, and resorts conglomerate) -- into one. This way the programs that affect several companies at a time can talk to one unified project plan with all team members and project managers working the same SDLC.
