"This place is a good start if you're fresh out of school. Make sure you have an interest in tech (this firm specializes in High-Tech PR) or you'll be banging your head on the desk by the end of the day."
What don't you like about working at SocialRadius?
"Micromanagement is rampant. New ideas are not welcomed without struggle. Key team members do not like to be challenged in their knowledge. There seems to be a culture of shifting blame, and accountability is not encouraged."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Listen to your team! They can bring new and exciting ideas to the table, they can lift you up out of the traditional rut. Give them some autonomy."
What do you like about working at SocialRadius?
"Collaboration is supposed to make things go more smoothly and more quickly. Unfortunately to my boss, collaboration means micromanagement. We are not allowed to make our own decisions or have any sort of autonomy. All emails must be pre-approved before sending (or the supervisor must be CC'ed on each and every one). Talk about not empowering your team!Perks include telecommuting. You can work anywhere you want (home, coffee shop, library, etc.) and we have an office available for our use as well, though it is rarely used. It is a strictly BYOD company though. You'll be working on your own computer, using your own phone, etc."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"This job is a good stepping stone. It's a place to cut your teeth in the PR world. Make as many business contacts as you can so that if/when you leave you are able to bring them with you. This company specializes in high-tech and B2B PR, so make sure you have an interest in tech before applying."
What don't you like about working at SocialRadius?
"The micromanagement has got to stop. It's stifling to creativity. We had some interesting ideas, but they usually got shot down by the higher-ups (who are used to traditional/old fashioned PR)."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I'd make sure my employees were trained well and were well compensated. The feeling we got is that since turnover is high, they will probably leave, so why train them The other problem is that wages are below industry average, and those willing to work those wages are kids straight out of school with zero experience. Which need to be trained anyway. Also, eating my own dog food. The term thought leader pops up frequently, and we would've liked to see some actual thought leadership. If the key members of the team are experts, why is it so difficult to pass their knowledge to the mid & entry level team"
