15 Account Executives from Citadel Broadcasting submitted salaries.
Las Vegas, Nevada-based Citadel Broadcasting was the nation's third largest radio station owner until March 2011 when rival Cumulus Media purchased it in a deal thought to be worth $2.4 billion. Prior to this purchase, Citadel operated 243 radio stations across the United States.
Businessman Larry Wilson founded the company in 1984. Wilson started with two radio stations in Tucson, Arizona. In 2006, Wilson sold Citadel to the private equity firm Forstmann Little & Company for $2.1 billion.
In 2006, Citadel acquired most of the Walt Disney Company's interests in the ABC radio network. The former ABC stations, however, continued to do poorly, leading to the dismissal of many DJs and a switch to a more automated format. Citadel subsequently filed for bankruptcy in December 2009. The Cumulus purchase was made shortly after Citadel emerged from bankruptcy.
It's not known how many employees Citadel had at its operational peak. Salaries followed trends set in local radio station markets, with employees in Los Angeles markets receiving higher pay than those in mid-America. Members of the sales operations teams worked for a lower salary plus a commission. Employees had complaints about the unsatisfactory 401(K) plan, compulsory uncompensated overtime and low bonuses.
Senior Account Manager is the highest paying job at Citadel Broadcasting at $133,000 annually.
