"This company has been great to me for the last 15 years"
"Loved CPWM as a customer - and now even more since joining the company a few years ago. Work is interesting, people are kind, and work/life balance is great. I'm grateful for the close friendships made there and enjoy the business milestones we reach together each year as we continue to grow."
"The Company has fun product to sell, the employees are great to work with, however the corporate attitude is evident and have little respect for the people on the front line. Very bureaucratic environment with a lot and ongoing demands that are often unreasonable. The pay scale is very low considering the expectations. The work environment is unsafe at store level with poor storage organization and constant moving of fixtures with little payroll to support the work load and expectations. Great benefit, perhaps why people stay???"
"Spending 9 years with the company, I was able to experience the drive and determination to maintain consistency and stability through the extremely volatile economic downturn and help the company achieve success to come out as one of the better retailers. This company will give the opportunity to develop yourself in many different arenas to mold you into a better business person as well as challenge you on a daily basis. Overall I highly recommend this company."

What do you like about working at Cost Plus?
"Because I was one of the people they hired to help set up the store my job wasn't bad. It was a lot of moving boxes, cutting them open, and then stocking the items where they belonged. But my coworkers were probably the best thing about working there. There was also a generous employee discount, not that I ever got to use it."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Only bother showing up if you are totally willing to put up with managers who have communication skills that are worse than a toddler's."
What don't you like about working at Cost Plus?
"The managers lacked basic communication skills. If your schedule was changed, you never heard about it; until you showed up at the time you were told to be there and find out that they made it an hour later, and run 2 hours later then what they had originally said. They had NO respect for student's schedules, high school or otherwise. Directions were vague, and you would hear about it later if you didn't do what they thought they said, but never ever mentioned to you. You were being constantly pushed to do things faster and faster because everyone there needs to have a scene of urgency and to be honest I'm shocked no one fell and died while we were setting up the store. Cleaning was unsanitary, you weren't offered gloves, and I doubt they would have even given them to you if they did. The open door policy they claim to have is completely nonexistent, so if you confide in them about something that they did that you weren't too pleased with, be prepared to clean out your locker and head home!"
