Dillard’s is a retail department store chain with locations in the central and southern parts of the United States. Their original store location was in Nashville, Arkansas, and was started in 1938. Since that time, the store chain has expanded into a publicly traded company. Currently, Dillard’s operates over 300 retail stores in 29 states. Corporate offices are located in Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition to retail stores, Dillard’s has a general contracting construction company, which is also based in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Dillard’s culture places an emphasis on individuals who enjoy working with the public and are enthusiastic about working in a retail environment. The work environment is geared toward individuals who have chosen a career path working in a retail environment. Corporate expectations are that employees will be dedicated to their jobs and be willing to go that extra mile to help customers. Dillard’s places a high value on customer service and looks for employees who put customer needs first.
Working at Dillards is similar to many retail store chains. Employees may find that they benefit from settling into one retail department and specializing in those specific retail products, such as cosmetics or men’s furnishings. Typical of retail work settings, employee work hours are scheduled around rotating shifts. Most stores are open six to seven days a week, and it is not unusual for employees to be scheduled to work during evening and weekend hours when sales are at their peak. Administrative positions work a more typical eight hour shift. During the holiday season, employees can expect to work long retail shift hours.
Dillard’s careers center primarily around retail sales. There are many entry level positions for sales clerks, who may advance to department managers. Additionally, positions as retail store managers are a career path for employees. Dillard’s also has corporate office positions available. Administrative support positions, positions in merchandise buying and human resources are among the corporate positions available. Additionally, finance and real estate management are possible career paths for employees. In their construction division, positions in construction management, construction trades and strategic planning are also available.
Dillard’s benefits include health insurance, dental and vision insurance and life insurance. Additionally, employees receive a retirement package, paid vacation time and a discount on products available at Dillard’s stores.
Director of Advertising is the highest paying job at Dillard's at $100,000 annually.
