On a typical day they meet with writers, receive text, edit the text and assist in producing content in its final print or digital format.
Skill Set: It is important to have an excellent command of language, know how to communicate effectively in writing and strive for perfection. In addition to being well-versed in spelling, grammar, punctuation and other basics, they often have expertise in specific writing styles, such as those for news, medicine, technical writing or academia.
Education: A common requirement is to have a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, public relations, online media or related fields. Some editors have advanced degrees. They also often have a secondary background in the field in which they are editing.
Career Path: Editors often start as writers and work their way up into editing positions. Depending on their industry, they sometimes start in a small market before growing into jobs with larger companies.
