What do you like about working at Harris Corp.?
"Enjoyed working with most of my coworkers and managers (with 2 exception, described below). Enjoyed learning new technology. Very nice offices with view. Pay was very good."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Image is very important because this is a customer service organization. It is important to be very polished, unusually confident, and slightly creative but still conventional. Note that most people that were hired into this organization were senior level engineers in their discipline."
What don't you like about working at Harris Corp.?
"(1) Not as challenging as I had hoped. (2) The Engineering Manager, new to this position, yelled at people. He was a hardware engineer who didn't understand software so he may have used yelling at me to cover up his lack of knowledge in software. One coworker was a fraud. He wrote white papers but didn't understand the concepts behind the buzzwords he was using. If he had published his most recent paper, it would have been an embarrassment for the company because it was based on his erroneous understanding of whatever he was writing about. Management thought he was brilliant because they didn't understand the technology either. Only the new hires were willing to work with this employee."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"None. Management won't listen. Many of them were basically very nice people but they only hear what they want to hear. This attribute only became a problem when they failed to listen to complaints about the two people mentioned above. The coworker that I mentioned above, was eventually put on more menial tasks and his special funding stopped. Presumably they found out that he couldn't produce. About the same time, the VP for this organization was demoted."
