"Avoid it! Extremely low pay ($8.50 an hour). The workload is absolutely not worth what they pay. Toxic work environment, unless you like management talking behind employees' backs to other employees. No hard work is rewarded."
"Pay is bad - $11/hour. Hours are horrible; can range from 3 hours to 10 hours, 8:30 am to 5 am. Recognition for loyalty and dedication - non-existent"
"JOANN is an average company to work for."
"I've been at Joann's over 5 years and worked with some great people. But there's also been some miserable people. It's hard to be inspiring to customers when management is rude (to employees and customers), unappreciative of how hard we work and constantly rewarding their favorites with better hours and tasks. The store environment is much like high school. There are cliques, a lot of gossiping, backstabbing and bullying. The pay is not worth the headaches."
"For the amount of work you do in an average day, the pay is way below what other companies pay. Only management is full time averaging 60-80 hour work weeks. At 8.00 per hour for everyday employees with 25 hours scheduled; do not expect great service. Most employees work 2-3 part time jobs to make ends meet. Joann fabric corporate should be ashamed of themselves. These conditions make for a hostile work environment for everyone."
"A lot of hard work, you are constantly on the run, and it's nearly impossible to get the store cleaned and organized for the next day."
"I feel they never truly attempted to make you feel welcome to any degree. It was more of a tempered 'dealing with these working grunts until we don't need them anymore' kind of attitude you got from managers and higher ups. There were several people who have been working there for years who were the most unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful people I have ever met anywhere. One high end programmer decided to walk up to me, after I merely put a note on a ticket he was looking at and it made his page refresh which in turn made him angry, so he had to come up to me and scream in my face in front of everyone in an attempt to 'right this'. Nothing was ever done."
"I have worked for Joann Fabrics since 2007. I have found it to be a company with a current identity crisis. We want to be all things to all customers. We are also going through a cultural change where work life balance has taken a turn for the worst."
"A+ 10/10, way better than Macy's."
"I have worked for Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores since 2013 and there is a lot of potential within this company. There are a lot of great personalities and they have an amazing staff. Unfortunately for being a store based on inspiration they aren't very inspirational."
"Joann employs a lot of kind and talented individuals but the company has lost their competitive drive for innovation. A lot of their culture seems like it was modeled after Office Space as if it were a good thing. You can pursue all the technological innovations in the world but if you don't nurture and encourage growth with your staff you will never grow."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"It's your average retail job. Your fellow employees may be great, but the job itself is nothing out of the ordinary. If you want to wow management, keep a positive, upbeat attitude and don't be afraid or unwilling to learn and try new things."
What don't you like about working at Jo-Ann Stores?
"Me feet are killing me at the end of the work day. Customers always get me into trouble with the boss. I hate working all those dang weekends when I should be out enjoying my life.
