Congenital Heart sonographers are trained in pediatric cardiac sonography and have further refined their skills to add adults with congenital heart disease. This role is critical as we execute on the strategy to build an accredited ACHD program at Maine Health.


This position is located in an outpatient office, with no weekend/call requirements!


Position Summary

Responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to assist with the diagnosis of various cardiac conditions, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and proficiency with appropriate clinical protocols.


Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: Graduate of an approved school of sonography or equivalent combination of training and experience to be eligible for registration as a Cardiac Sonographer through ARDMS or CCI.
  • License/Certifications: Registered in Cardiac Sonography through the American Registry of Diagnostic and Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Pediatric registration or Advanced Cardiac Sonography (ACS) registration preferred. Current BLS required.
  • Experience: 4 years ultrasound/sonography experience in a medical practice or hospital setting
  • Meets all requirements of a Cardiac Sonographer III.
  • Knowledge of crash cart emergency procedures and contents and proper response to emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of safety, infection control and quality assurance protocols.
  • Ability to support the technical director of the echo lab per ICAEL guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image even under stressful situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others, including ability to allay apprehension of patients and elicit their cooperation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient computer skills.
