As a Part Time Dietary Aide for Homeland Center, you contribute to our culture of care and trust by ensuring residents receive their meals following proper Food Service regulations.
Dietary Aide Responsibilities include:
- Determines long-term care/short-term care resident food preferences and special requests by dispensing and collecting menu selection forms; Discussing choices and options from long-term health care general menu selections with residents; Reminding residents of special dietary plan requirements designated by dietician; Keeping residents informed of required dietary changes.
- Provides long-term care/short-term care residents nutrition by delivering meal and snack trays; Verifying tray contents against food orders and dietitian meal plans; Ensuring proper food temperature; Arranging food for appetizing presentation; Ensuring that resident is comfortably positioned for proper digestion; Offering help with opening packets and containers as determined by resident condition.
- Retrieves long-term care/short-term care residents meal trays by collecting and returning trays to kitchen area; Consolidating waste; Following prescribed procedures for cleaning and sanitizing reusable items; Storing reusable items.
- Provides resident record information by logging resident dietary requirements; Monitoring resident food consumption; Completing forms, maintaining logs and records; Recording changes in dietary requirements.
- Protects residents and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; Following safety policies.
- Maintains dietary department quality results by following long-term health care standards.
- Protects long-term health care organization value by keeping information confidential; Cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
- Serves and protects the long-term health care community by adhering to professional standards, long-term health care policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
- Improves dietary and long-term health care job knowledge by attending training sessions.
- Contributes to dietary and long-term health care success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; Helping others accomplish job results.
- Additional responsibilities, as assigned.
Experience and Education:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent, preferred, but not required.
- Prior dietary aide or food service experience preferred, but not required.
- Basic English Language Skills, including ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Basic Mathematical Skills, including ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Basic Reasoning Skills, including ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Prior dietary or food service experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work well within a geriatric setting.
- Attention to detail and ability to complete repetitive tasks.
