About the team and role:

eBay Global Information Security (GIS) is looking for a team member who will assist with the design, implementation and ongoing support of the cyber security analytics and data engineering program within the Information Security Team.

As a Staff Security Software Engineer, you will work directly with teams inside and outside of GIS as part of our overarching data engineering strategy for Threat Management and Response (TMR).

The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovative engineering solutions in the space of cyber security. You would need to be skilled at finding opportunities for building analytics solutions within the realms of security.

We use open-source solutions like Flink, Kafka and Hadoop as our primary platform for security analytics and you should have extensive knowledge of these technologies. In addition to that, you will need to be experienced in the domain of security itself.

What you will accomplish:

Architectural Leadership: You will define and guide the architectural vision for our security data pipeline and analytics software solutions, ensuring they align with organizational goals and standard processes.

Development & Implementation: You will develop and scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, write code, and deliver with speediness and quality.

Complex Problem Solving: Analyze and resolve intricate security challenges by applying innovative techniques and strategies to ensure that we build secure solutions.

Collaboration & Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between the security team and other departments, clearly communicating technical concepts and solutions. Be able to present complex technical solutions to executive leadership.

Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What you will bring:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or related fields) with 9+ years of development work experience with security either in applications or tools development.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Apache Flink, Kafka, Hadoop, Java and Spark SQL and similar technologies preferred.

  • Hands on coding and stream processing experience needed.

  • Knowledge of application security practices, secure coding and other security technologies and experience in designing and implementing security architectures.

  • Proven track record of presenting complex architectures in conference talks, tech blog posts and other forums and contribution to open-source projects.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, PCI) and their implications on software design.
