Position: Sr. Research and Genotyping Manager
Reports To: Director of Operations

Position Description
The Research Manager responsibilities include developing and leading R&D projects, for example creating and implementing new product / technology offerings into the production laboratory facility.
The Genotyping Manager responsibilities include utilizing foundational knowledge of molecular biology laboratory techniques to oversee genotyping on array platforms (including Illumina and Affymetrix microarrays) as well as single marker genotyping using PCR and ELISA workflows. The manager must understand the sample volume forecasts on a weekly, monthly and annual basis to ensure that the laboratory can deliver stated turnaround times in reporting results.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develops and leads R&D Projects (evaluated with Senior Team), that have the potential to create new lab services, technologies and/or process improvement initiatives, through implementation in production workflows.
- Works with the management team to achieve defined R&D Priorities.
- Prepares progress reports for key priorities on a monthly basis as well as presenting progress in Leadership/Management meetings at Genetic Visions.
- Leads personnel involved with key R&D priorities.
- Supervises and supports the Research Technicians as well as the Genotyping Technician Supervisors
- Influences a culture of continuous improvement and environment that embraces change within the lab.
- Grows and maintains a network of molecular genetics and genomics experts and technology providers as a resource for advice.
- Attends relevant conferences to ensure knowledge of technology is current.
- Manages all genotyping processes at Genetic Visions.
- Manages equipment purchasing and maintenance routines as well as reagent/consumable supplies for the laboratory.
- Participates in SOP writing/review .
Requirements
- Higher degree in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, biotechnology or related fields, preferably a PhD.
- 10+ years' experience in designing and managing academic or industrial research projects, preferably in livestock genetics/genomics.
- 5+years' experience in genotyping is additionally preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including previous experience in managing people.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experienced with Microsoft Office products.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others within and outside of Genetic Visions.
- Ability to multi-task and adjust to changing priorities.
- Excellent time management skills.
