Marketing mangers work with sales agents and art directors to help create a buzz around a certain service or product. They predict how much of a demand there will be and which markets an organization should focus on. Managers are also in charge of developing pricing plans so that businesses can make the largest profit possible from a new product or service.
Skillset: Marketing managers should be able to devise creative selling strategies and make the final decision on proposed marketing and advertising plans. Managers should also have good people skills since they have to interact with different types of people in different roles. They'll also be expected to be able to effectively manage their time and energy.
Education: A common education requirement for marketing managers is a bachelor's degree. Courses in management, economics, business law and statistics prove to be the most useful. Those who wish to focus more on advertising will most likely want to earn a bachelor's degree in journalism or advertising.
Career Path: It's advised that future marketing managers complete an internship while earning their degree. Experience in promotions, marketing and sales may prove beneficial, as could a former position as a sales representative, public relations specialist or purchasing agent.
