"It is hard to generalize a postdoctoral experience. It heavily depends on your supervisor (PI) and the projects you are working on. I was lucky I got exposed to both clinical and basic research in a balanced and productive manner. Learning what you will end up working on, even broadly, before you join a lab would be a perfect situation."
