6 Sales Managers from PSAV Presentation Services submitted reviews
2.6Many of the managers I came in contact with started out as hourly technicians. There's a big difference between knowing how to perform the technical functions of the job and knowing how to manage the time and talent of others. Unfortunately, most of the managers I reported to had never received any type of formal management training and were unable to help me grow professionally. During my career, I reported to two managers - neither of whom had any sales experience. They were willing to give me their best guess as to how I should negotiate and interact with clients, and they were empathetic when I went through difficult situations. But their advice never came from experience. Is was sort of management by best guess.
1.9I've worked with PSAV for over a decade and things went to bad to OK to actually good, then started to go down FAST when the merger started, then it went down hill at record speed. The employees are treated like garbage, labor laws are broken daily without consequences. HR will lie to you and do nothing about it. The company does have its moments but when push comes to shove the people at the bottom will suffer. Pay is as low as they can go (and since they are most of the industry) they can actually say (no matter the pay) that it is about industry average. Raises are capped at 3% (that is the highest, not the average). Moving up in the company is really hard unless you are inept and not a very good person (these people float to the top fast). After a while I could not take it any more and the first chance I got I bailed as I saw the that things will get worse.
Stop treating people like they are worthless. Full time is implied 40 hours a week not average of 32hrs/week for the year. Training helps both the company and the employee. Technicians do talk among each others so they do know the salary ranges. The managers that lie, the properties that do not have free parking and free lunch.
