2.4I have been employed with Shopko Corp for over 4 years now. I have seen changes and been through a lot in this small time frame. I don't agree with a lot this company has to offer. Their lack of pay wages is a lot of the issue. This company would survive with a lot more help if the pay was better. I have worked in the Pocatello Store and I have watched as each manager hires and then after the hiring process is completed the new help leaves. There is so many changes and nothing is done about it. We used to have a group huddle to catch up on the in's and out's of what is going on in the company and now we're lucky to find out at all. Due to the lack of help I have been abused and yelled at, and I don't like the fact that I have to put up with the crap that Shopko has put us through. I understand that you're a big retail business and you're trying to make money, but don't you think resolving the problem by giving the store managers to hire people who are willing to work and stay longer if they could give a pay raise to those that deserve it. The Shopko store in Pocatello, Idaho is so run down and old, it is in such need of a makeover to brighten the spirits of the staff and customers. The feedback I receive from the customers is amazing and how they express how we are so much like K-mart and lack of helping out the store. That we will be CLOSING our doors soon. My only regret for our customers is the lack of service that we could help our customers is allotting more help. As for the air conditioner not working in the summer and customers and employees sweating from the heat and the heater blowing cold air during the winter. I have observed these things and watch the frustration on every staff members' face and the lack of enthusiasm of going to work every day. I know that Shopko head office is busy and does not look at these complaints but I wish they would. It has been a growing problem throughout the company, then they should bring the growth they need to be better.
2.4I would have meetings each shift with my employees, and have an organized strategy each day to accomplish what needs to be done. I ask for suggestions from my employees and implement them if they are appropriate and/ or helpful. I would invite the Regional management to visit when it is most chaotic and demand action, not words! I would pay my employees enough to limit turnover, in order to keep the experienced personnel in my store-and utilize their experience to train the un-experienced. I would delegate certain areas in my store to specific personnel - they would be responsible for their areas - but also be cross-trained and taught to work as a team.
Our store sometimes had a lot of turn over. My suggestion is...instead of going through the whole hiring process and find out they were not a good fit, Shopko should look at going through a temp agency. Once the temp is out on the floor and actually doing the job both parties will discover if it is a good fit or not with out investing all that time in the hiring process.
