No wonder that Oracle bought them, it was impossible to compete with Red Hat after Scott killed Solaris x86 in the late 1990's. I would be interested to know how former Sun folks are doing at Oracle. The cultural differences between the two companies is palpable!!"

"Greater attention to profitability as a standalone enterprise. Sun was later bought by Oracle."

"May be it is too late to suggest a closer emphasis on profit centers, such as Professional Services, where I worked."

"Losing money and changing direction without a clear strategy to succeed."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Figure out a strategy and focus on execution that supports the needs of the customer. IP development and all vertical integration requires lots of capital that can't be matched by using other capabilities from the horizontal market such as using Intel's CPUs Vs SPARC."

"95% travel is a tough job to maintain for a long period of time."

"Well, they're Oracle now, so they're all working for Larry Ellison. I'm sure the culture is different but the sales jobs for the software guys needs support."
