The University of Nebraska is a public higher education system in the state of Nebraska. The university began its operations in 1869 with a single campus located in the city of Lincoln. The Lincoln campus still serves as the university's flagship location to this date and is the largest with 19,345 undergraduate and 4,679 graduate students currently attending. There are also campuses located in Omaha, Kearney and Curtis. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is the university's medical school, founded in 1880 and added to the public University of Nebraska system later in 1902. It is located in Omaha.
The university began as an idea by a group of Nebraska citizens who received legislative permission to found a university that would be based in Saratoga. However, the project wasn't completed as planned and it was only in 1869 that the University of Nebraska opened its doors in Lincoln. The institution underwent a reorganization in 1968, by taking over the University of Omaha. The Kearney State College was added to the public system later in 1991.
Currently, there are over 3,000 academic staff members at the University of Nebraska. The university is committed to employment equality and is constantly in search of full and part time academic, managerial, professional and support staff. Its staff members benefit from learning and career development programs, a retirement fund that is sponsored by the university, paid annual vacation, medical leave and comprehensive insurance packages (life and health).
Associate Professor is the highest paying job at University of Nebraska at $77,000 annually.
