"I've worked as an engineer and as an attorney. By far, my current position is the best job that I have ever had. The compensation and benefits are great for the amount of time you have to work. It is wonderful having PTO that you can take without feeling any guilt. The level of autonomy I have with this job is also wonderful. I rarely have to rely on anybody else to meet my production requirements. The work is challenging, in a positive way, and the work is diverse enough to keep it interesting. I would strongly recommend this job to anybody that enjoys a solid work-life balance."
"Very subjective job. Depends highly on who you get for your SPE and reviewer. They will make or break you. Depending on management they can behave very unprofessionally. Lack people skills. And can not manage. Extremely gossipy work group. Reviewers especially primary examiners can and will abuse the little power they are given if they are bad reviewers."
"I've worked at the USPTO from July 2020 - July 2021. It was an awesome experience to be exposed to next generation technology!"
"I've worked for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. I found it to be a good environment to work and has great ethical values placing their customers first on the priority list. Many fascinating things to learn and see at the Patent and Trademark Office/"
"I worked at the patent office for a year and the people were amazing and the salary and benefits were amazing too. Unfortunately the work was too dull for me."
"Stone age personnel practices"
"The USPTO is an institution with a clear distribution of power (Apartheid-like): I do not mention whites in the distribution below, because white folks rule this place, and nobody mess with whites. By nobody I mean: LGBT, blacks, Asians, and Hispanics with white complex. 1- LGBT community are the most powerful (besides white folks). They can harass with impunity heterosexual new employees, and because you are under probation, you are out, at the 8th month in you dare to complain. Forget the EEO office, they do not work for you. 2- Blacks, are very empowered through the EEO office and its deputy known as Bismark. He just care about his people and is very aggressive if your mess with black folks. In level below, Bismark take care of the LGBT community and Asian- Americans. Hispanics have not rights here, unless you are White-Hispanic who speak perfect English. If you are not, Bismark (and the EEO office in general) does not give a f**k for you, even if you are being harassed by LGBT folks, or mistreated by your supervisor, called in this organization SPEs. 3. Asian Americans are empowered and are the most abusive Asian Americans that you can encounter in a civilian organization. By abusive I mean, people who does not have absolutely any respect for employees who do not fall in the classification above in 1 and 2 (Usually Hispanics who do not speak perfect English). Conversely, they worship you as a demi-god if you are white. Thanks God I do not work in this racist place any longer."
"Excellent place to work - an ideal work/life balance and the USPTO respects its employees."
"I have worked for USPTO for 6 months. This job requires me to work with inventors and large companies on the patentability of an invention. In order to do this, I search through current products on the market to determine the novelty of a product."
"I worked for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for 7+ years. The job perks are huge: unparalleled flexibility, and ability to be relatively autonomous and quite a bit of PTO. The job itself can be pretty technical depending on the types of patent applications you see, but outside of that, the job is more about ensuring that the applications conform to the relevant laws and statutes."
"Cutting edge technology and processes that evolves every year. Good laptops to do the work. Telework 2 days a week. Food options on site are decent, not phenomenal. Indoor cafeteria is good. Plenty of funding. High salary. Excellent benefits."
"Deadline based job. Must be able to deal with multiple co-pending deadlines and be able to filter information fast. Job is very self paced and requires discipline. Depending upon relationship with management can be satisfying or miserable."
"The working conditions change with each presidency."
"Best place to work. Good Team workers, timely pay and great management"
"Working at the USTPO provides great flexibility in work-life balance, but requires a certain mentality to do the job consistently."
