"If you are a self-learner, can tolerate long work hours and are OK with thinking for others you will survive."

What don't you like about working at VCU Medical Center?

"Physicians of other departments do not care about patients. They do not think about medical problems, but rather conform to parameters and statistics and do not use medical knowledge for their management decisions. Departments are terribly understaffed for the work demands they face."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Screen the clinical skills and knowledge of staff. Eliminate incompetence by employing doctors that actually think and want to solve medical problems, instead of finding ways to get a disposition and discharge a patient as fast as possible."
