Working at Wackenhut in Hyrum, UT: 1 Employee Reviews

Security Officer

"$610 Family Insurance, and no raises leave security positions quite inadequate to raise a family on."

What do you like about working at Wackenhut?

"The people you work with, and the uniqueness of the job. There was almost always something interesting going on, and you get to really have an indepth idea of how the place works."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you want a career in this field, focus on armed security for companies that continually increase their contract pay. Government positions are about the only opportunity to advance in this career. But it is a fun job, and if your not concerned about pay, its a good option to go with. But best to keep this career option on the back burner for when you retire."

What don't you like about working at Wackenhut?

"If they offered better benefits, and pay raises, it would not be bad at all. But as all the positions are Sub-Contracted, raises depend upon the company paying the contract out. If they feel like paying more, we get a raise. My supervisor only made $0.25 more then I did, and she had been there for 10+ years."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Negotiate contracts better, and find a better insurance company. The major reason why people do not stay at there for very long is the poor benefits and the chance for advancement. If these things reflected a normal career, they would be far better."
