Bacardi is the largest privately owned spirits provider in the world. The company was founded on February 4th in 1862 by Facundo Bacardi Massó and his brother, José. The brothers created a shop in Santiago de Cuba made of copper and cast iron. This establishment inspired the Bacardi logo because fruit bats lived in the rafters of the building. Between the 1880s and 1890s, the company became unstable due to Bacardi's son, Emilio Facundo, and his repeated incarcerations for his involvement in Cuban War of Independence. By 1910, Facundo Bacardi opened a plant in Barcelona and another in New York by 1915. The third generation of the Bacardi family joined the family business by establishing a distillery in Schueg in 1930. In 2006, Bacardi's profits rose to $4.9 billion dollars and increased to $5.5 million dollars in 2007.

Bacardi currently owns more than 200 brands and labels. Its top brands include Grey Goose, Dewar's, Martini, Bacardi, Bacardi Rum, Eristoff, Bombay Sapphire, and Cazadores. Today, the company produces its products in 27 facilities on four continents. Bacardi continues to sells its product in over 150 countries.
