Fluor was founded as a construction company in 1912 by John Simon Fluor, a Swiss immigrant from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Fluor was incorporated in 1924. The company grew through contracts with large oil companies such as Richfield Oil and Shell Oil. The company expanded its business in 1947 by securing a contract for Aramco in Saudi Arabia.

Over the years Fluor acquired various businesses such as Daniel International Corporation, St. Joe Minerals, ADP, and Marshall Contractors. Fluor is currently headquartered in Irving, Texas.
