2.2I worked with Game Mechanic Studio for 4 years starting in 2016. After 4 years I had gained only 5k total raise despite working on nearly every released project one of which won several awards, various demos, and working as hard as I could put in 9+ hour days regularly, oftentimes being the only one in my position on many projects. There was no mentoring to help me improve. A constant hit-the-ground-sprinting mentality on every project as the company constantly wants to push something out within 6 months. Director is barely involved despite requiring his approval on everything. Features are made up on the spot with no thought as to how they fit in the big picture. Leading to many random pointless deadlines and crunches to just push something out. Director did not want anyone to work from home despite pandemic warnings, state of emergency, and stay at home orders. Once people refused to work in the office a few were people punished with layoffs. People's time is not respected and people are micromanaged which killed morale. When complaining about it, was gaslighted and then laid off. Most projects are not even games. People get outsourced a lot which leads to some cool varied experiences however this also means no focus on improving in a single direction. The pay was lowballed from the beginning and again barely improved. Director does not know the difference between being a good leader and a good businessman as saving his money is more important than the team. No HR. Director ironically complains about the government being "Big Brother". Director is ultimately just a bully that creates a toxic environment that destroys morale.
