San Bernardino Unified School District (SBUSD) is a public school system serving more than 50,000 elementary/secondary students and 11,000 adult education students at its 67 schools. The district provides educational instruction to students living in most parts of San Bernardino and in parts of Highland. It is the eighth largest school district in California.
SBUSD is based in San Bernardino, California and is governed by a publicly elected body of seven school board members. Two of its schools are national blue ribbon schools and 16 of its campuses earned California Distinguished Schools designations.
SBUSD employs nearly 2,000 classified employees and more than 2,000 teachers in its district. Classified employees' benefits are covered by agreements between the district and two bargaining units: California School Employees Association and the San Bernardino Police Officers Association. Generally, the district pays premium costs for full-time classified employees' dental, medical, vision and life insurance plans. Faculty benefits are negotiated by the San Bernardino Teachers Association to include district-paid dental, medical and life insurance premiums for qualified full-time teachers. The district also covers the dental and life insurance premium costs for eligible employees' dependents. An employee assistance plan is offered to district employees.
