Sercel designs and manufactures high-tech integrated equipment for seismic data acquisition in the hydrocarbon exploration industry. Their sensors are used on oil and gas fields in land and marine locations and have a strong reputation for quality among contractors and drilling professionals.

The company originated in 1956 as an offshoot of the electronics department of the French company Compagnie Generale de Geophysique. At that time, the new company was called SMG and employed 18 people. SMG became Sercel in 1962 and moved from Paris to Nantes, France in 1965. Its home office is still there, though it now has locations in ten countries and employs some 2,000 people.

Sercel’s product line includes systems and devices centered on sensing, relaying and recoding data from remote locations. Some of their innovations are the UNITE system of cable-free seismic sensors, the 428XL large channel data acquisition system and the Seal 428 marine high-resolution system. These and other accomplishments have secured the company’s position as a leader in its field.
