1.7I've only worked here for about a year, but I believe it takes a lot less time to gain perspective. This specific Shoprite has poor management. There is usually a half an hour wait to talk to management on the phone if you need to call out. As well as on the floor when a cashier needs a floor manager which is almost every transaction, it takes them 5 or more minutes to come over, thus aggravating the customers. It forces them to show an ugly side to the cashier, and treat them poorly. Training lasts a day and then you're thrown to the sharks. You get quizzed on produce but they don't give you a way to study, you're just expected to know the codes. The managers constantly reprimand you and talk down to you. It makes you fear talking to them. They also play favorites. If you're not a favorite you get punished a lot. They rarely stick to the rules, and don't take availability into account. A family emergency means nothing to them. My experience going to work everyday is a very unpleasant one, and I am usually unhappy and leave angry.
1.5I worked for the Eickhoff family for over 5 years. Doing that time I was bullied and harassed by managers and co-workers alike. If the managers didn't like you, they treated you like crap and would say nasty things about you. If you are an outcast, loner, or quiet person, the Eickhoffs would give you the worst jobs and have you work at night. They are the worst Shoprite family to work for. The work environment is very negative and just about everybody gets bullied. What makes working for the Eickhoffs even worse is the bad union. Local 152 is corrupt. If you have a problem, you will get snowballed and lied to. I highly suggest sane people to not apply for this company. It will drive you mentally insane.
3.8Your mileage may vary, as all ShopRite stores are independently owned. We have a good owner, but I have heard plenty of stories of bad owners.
The pay is good for the position offered (well above minimum wage), the raises are okay, and workers are treated with respect. Management listens to the concerns of low-level employees - I once suggested a very minor thing to make the lives of cashiers like myself a bit easier, and I saw it implemented instantly.
