"I've worked for Smithers-Oasis for 3 years. I find that it has a very strong family company atmosphere, where upper management is always willing to be "available" and "door's always open" culture. However, I do feel that many of the employees are overworked and their extra efforts are not necessarily recognized, either verbally, or monetarily. This may be because almost everyone in management has more work than they know what to do with, so the importance of softer developmental skills is not as high of a priority. There is some inner politics at play, like in any mid-size organization, but the nice thing is that there is generally an open communication path to execute projects of your own design. So, although there is a lack of red tape when it comes to implementing new projects, it is difficult to gather necessary resources, as many employees are over-worked with other tasks."
