Texas State Technical College Overview

The Texas State Technical College is a network of colleges that provides technical educational programs. The college was founded in 1965 as the James Connally Technical Institute in order to provide workforce training to prepare students for a variety of careers. Originally the college was a part of Texas A&M University, but the college separated from Texas A&M in 1969.

Texas State Technical College’s original campus was in Waco, TX, where the main campus is still located. However, the college has expanded to include campuses in Harlingen, Marshall, Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, and Sweetwater, TX. Degree programs offered at the college include traditional ones such as drafting and design technology and nursing as well as cutting edge ones such as medical imaging systems and wind energy technology.

Texas State Technical College employs a large variety of staff to serve its 15,000 students. Employees of the college receive full benefits including health insurance, paid vacations and retirement benefits. All regular employees employed more than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Other retirement savings programs are also available.
