In May of 2007, this company sold their commercial real estate business for $2 billion to iStar Financial, a real estate investment trust that acts as a private banker. Then in 2008, Fremont Investment and Loan’s retail deposits and bank retail branches were sold to TRS, Inc. for $5.6 billion. Today, the company still operates, but its name has been changed to Fremont Reorganizing Corporation, and they are a subsidiary of CapitalSource Bank.
