The GSA was established in 1949 following the recommendation of the Hoover Commission, a body appointed by President Harry Truman to develop policies for a reorganization of the government’s executive branch. Major services of the GSA are the Federal Acquisition Service and The Public Buildings Service. In 2005, the Federal Technology Service and the Federal Supply Service merged with the Acquisition Service.
