Overview Hofstra University was founded in the fall of 1934 by the trustees of William Hofstra’s sizable estate. The campus was built around the Hofstra’s large mansion and now spans 240 acres, housing more than 4,000 students in its Hempstead, Long Island New York campus. The picturesque campus sits approximately 25 miles east of New York City making all that the city has to offer accessible to Hofstra students and staff.

Hofstra University is a private university that offers both undergraduate and graduate programs.
