"You won't find a nicer bunch of people, but on the whole, their technology department is staffed by incompetents. Many of whom have been there for a long, long time. They almost ran the company into the ground, and the IT department is a bloated, disorganized, and expensive boondoggle. A veritable sea of mediocrity."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Get your act together! You don't need 20 programmers to support a single misanthropic custom order and inventory management system. It doesn't even do accounting for Chrissakes. I've seen too many companies of similar complexity and size that run their operations with 5 or 6 staff. You don't need 4 guys each making 6 figure salaries doing 60 hours of data entry, and you can't tell the people who actually produce/ship the products that you are unable to put more than one order on a railcar due to system limitations, not when you have 20 guys slaving away on a custom system. They should be ashamed."
