"Company is bankrupt and out of business"
"Working at Shopko has taught me many skills such as being a leader, team oriented and also problem solving skills. Even though my stay there was limited due to school i enjoyed every bit of it."
"I have been employed with Shopko Corp for over 4 years now. I have seen changes and been through a lot in this small time frame. I don't agree with a lot this company has to offer. Their lack of pay wages is a lot of the issue. This company would survive with a lot more help if the pay was better. I have worked in the Pocatello Store and I have watched as each manager hires and then after the hiring process is completed the new help leaves. There is so many changes and nothing is done about it. We used to have a group huddle to catch up on the in's and out's of what is going on in the company and now we're lucky to find out at all. Due to the lack of help I have been abused and yelled at, and I don't like the fact that I have to put up with the crap that Shopko has put us through. I understand that you're a big retail business and you're trying to make money, but don't you think resolving the problem by giving the store managers to hire people who are willing to work and stay longer if they could give a pay raise to those that deserve it. The Shopko store in Pocatello, Idaho is so run down and old, it is in such need of a makeover to brighten the spirits of the staff and customers. The feedback I receive from the customers is amazing and how they express how we are so much like K-mart and lack of helping out the store. That we will be CLOSING our doors soon. My only regret for our customers is the lack of service that we could help our customers is allotting more help. As for the air conditioner not working in the summer and customers and employees sweating from the heat and the heater blowing cold air during the winter. I have observed these things and watch the frustration on every staff members' face and the lack of enthusiasm of going to work every day. I know that Shopko head office is busy and does not look at these complaints but I wish they would. It has been a growing problem throughout the company, then they should bring the growth they need to be better."
"Good place to gain experience & get a paycheck, but not a good place to hang all your career hopes on. There is not a lot of movement upward. When there is, the pay does not reflect it. Definitely not good for a long term plan. The teamwork, culture & atmosphere are not things that management care about at the stores or in the corporate offices. You're really there for a paycheck & to make management look good."
"Under paid and under appreciated. There are no/minimal raises or bonuses regardless of your performance."
"Too many expectations and work load. Lack of training hours for new members. Pay scale doesn't match the average put on company website. Pay doesn't match expectations of the job.Unclear of company direction. Not giving raises and making cuts to payroll hours."
"I've worked with Shopko since 2011. I've truly enjoyed working within the merchandise and replenishment areas as the leadership of the teams is strong. The company has a new CEO in which, I believe, will increase the strength of leadership in the remaining areas of the business, such as Space Planning and Store Operations."
"I don't enjoy working here."
"Shopko was a temporary job that I did not enjoy. Primarily I didn't enjoy it because I don't like retail. Most of my managers were ok to deal with, only one that I would enjoy seeing again. The working conditions were average, nothing absolutely terrible but not particularly great, but that is retail."

What don't you like about working at Shopko?
"Our manager doesn't have a clue how to organize people - and our assistant manager hasn't been well-trained and is delegated too many jobs to be good at any of them! Some of the personnel are too physically handicapped for the job. The warehouse is WAY TOO SMALL for the volume of inventory and needs an updated method for unloading trucks and basic material handling."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I would have meetings each shift with my employees, and have an organized strategy each day to accomplish what needs to be done. I ask for suggestions from my employees and implement them if they are appropriate and/ or helpful. I would invite the Regional management to visit when it is most chaotic and demand action, not words! I would pay my employees enough to limit turnover, in order to keep the experienced personnel in my store-and utilize their experience to train the un-experienced. I would delegate certain areas in my store to specific personnel - they would be responsible for their areas - but also be cross-trained and taught to work as a team."
