In hindsight, starting a new home accessory business in 2008 at the beginning of the housing downfall was not a good idea. Hiring should have been kept at a minimal. Instead, the store director hired 5 managers and 80 employees. After 6 months, 1 manager and 18 employees were left. It is no fun working for a company when everyone is fearing for their jobs. That particular store director was laid off 1 year later, but the damage was done.
