University of Hartford was created in 1957 and combined three previously independent schools: the Hartt School, The Hartford Art School, and Hillyer College. Today, seven separate schools make up the university’s 350-acre main campus, along with two public magnet schools for elementary and high school students. Many of the universities galleries, performances, and lectures are available to the public and its Division I athletic program supports 18 intercollegiate sports that draw thousands of fans and supporters to matches.
