Overview The University of New Orleans (often called UNO) is a public university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a medium-sized institution, it had 9,825 students enrolled in 2012. The university was founded in 1958, but the idea for the university came 2 years earlier as a result of a citizen's movement to bring a publicly funded institution of higher learning to the city. The original campus was located in a former US Navy base that has been renovated to turn it into a school.
