2.4Mediocrity is the rule here. Outdated technology, active resistance to positive change, outdated skill sets, and everyone is too busy trying to claim credit for your accomplishments to acknowledge them or give you credit for them.
Leadership demands unrealistic accomplishments and when you work yourself to exhaustion and accomplish them anyway you are reprimanded for making trouble. Each year they found new and exciting ways to take away large portions of my annual bonuses. My manager had no clue what my job even was, there was no lateral movement or promotion opportunities, the workforce is out of date and underskilled because of lack of turnover and dislike of contract labor for staff augmentation.
I singlehandedly put them on the cloud in production within 7 months of starting after an entire team had failed to do the same for years and received nothing but complaints. I wrote their PCI-DSS 3.2.1 and had their cloud vendors come in and validate it with them and received complaints to HR for it. I built out an entire cloud operations group, identified & got approvals for the required technologies, produced a cloud wiki encyclopedia that nobody bothered to read, held training that nobody bothered to attend, had demonstrations that nobody would approve their people to attend, produced and disseminated a best-practices architecture that they added legacy misunderstandings to until it cost over $100,000 per month more than it should while providing vulnerabilities, weakening the overall solution, and making the user experience completely miserable.
Eventually they hired the head of Digital Transformation at AWS for what I have to assume is much more than they were paying me, and gave him actual authority (I had none while I was there) when he didn't get the promotion he wanted at Amazon, making my position "redundant" and forcing me to accept severance or be fired, then decided not to honor the terms of the severance.
They waste enough to cure cancer for free...
