CityTwig Employee

"Where to begin? CityTwig is a company that has 2 things going for it (1) a ton of data and (2) money. Both of these are valuable in the right hands. Unfortunately, CityTwig is not that company. This is a company that has a dev team of about ~6 people and is simultaneously trying to develop nine different products with no market research or plan to make them successful. Essentially you have two executives at the helm. Both of them have a lot of experience and I don’t doubt their knowledge. However, they’ve allowed themselves to become complacent and overconfident and feel they know it all despite not keeping up on technology over the last decade. So originally, ~1-2 years ago, they had a development team that was outsourced. After a year or so with a relationship together, they fired their CTO and development team completely and decided to start over. Their previous CTO/team would not so much as reply to an email, which should give you some idea of how that relationship ended. In May, they hired a new CTO. Under his reign, he put together a solid team by using a stringent screening process and a short leash during the probation period. From this we wound up with about 6 developers and a great project manager. Early on things seemed pretty solid. About a month in, a meeting was scheduled with a high level executive at Facebook. Two weeks before this meeting, we suddenly get the news that we are to have two mobile apps ready to demo for Facebook. That’s right, two apps which had not even been started were expected to be fully completed in a polished enough fashion to demo for Facebook in two weeks. During this time, the CTO was sent to India for other business meetings so was completely out of contact while we were working til 3-4 am trying to get these apps ready for the meeting. Ultimately, despite working our butts off the apps weren't even used for the meeting."
