This company began as an agriculture business, and it eventually became one of the leaders in the food packaging industry. ConAgra Food Inc. began its operations in 1861. Gilbert Van Camp set up a business processing canned products, especially pork and beans. His efforts were successful, and production continued under the name of State Central Flouring Mill until 1919. That year, the company changed its name to Nebraska Consolidated Mills, or NCM, under the direction of Alva Kinney and Frank Little. It was not until 1971 that the company became known as ConAgra.
Their food product lines include many now-famous items such as Hunt’s catsup. The company has also promoted Golden Valley microwave products since merging with the company in 1991. Overall, the products developed and produced by this company are a ubiquitous component of the supermarket experience. The packaged foods that many people have come to depend upon are a direct result of this company’s activities. Perhaps the most famous landmark action was taken by the company when they created Chef Boyardee in 1929. Other notable products that have since become stables in the American food market are Parkay margarine, Peter Pan peanut butter and Crunch ‘n Munch. In addition, the company has developed many other kosher products since they entered the market for these successful specialty items in 1993.
There are many dedicated individuals who have been working at ConAgra Foods in order to make the company a success. The prospects for developing long-term ConAgra careers are generally good. Because the overall ConAgra Foods culture promotes workplace diversity and continuing education, it is an exciting place to work for people who enjoy lively engagement with their co-workers as well as professional growth. For example, the ERN, or Employee Resource Network, is just one way that employees can share career tips and other useful information with each other.
ConAgra benefits are available to many employees, providing health, dental and vision as well as other important benefits. Beyond these items in the package, employees also enjoy the additional perk of contributing to a business that has an officially stated interest in promoting corporate responsibility and community health educational campaigns.
Senior Director of HR is the highest paying job at ConAgra Foods at $175,000 annually.
