Heller Ehrman Careers & Info

Heller Ehrman Overview

Heller Ehrman, founded in San Francisco in 1890, was an international law firm whose presence extended to some of the most prestigious financial centers of the globe, including Beijing, New York City, Singapore and Washington D.C. UC Berkeley graduate Emanuel Heller opened his first law practice on Sansome Street in San Francisco, joined by partner Francis Powers in 1896 to become Heller & Powers, changing to Heller, Powers & Ehrman in 1905 with the addition of Hastings graduate Sydney Ehrman to the firm. When Jerome White and Florence McAuliffe joined the firm after Powers' death in 1921, the firm became Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe LLP until 2005 when it was shortened to Heller Ehrman. Its main headquarters continued to be San Francisco, California.

The September 2008 loss of the firm's 15 intellectual property partners and 35 others earlier that year triggered the default of the company's line of credit which led to its dissolution by November 28, 2008. During its 108 years, Heller Ehrman counted Wells Fargo Bank, Ampex Corporation, Northrup Grummund Corporation and Consolidated Foods among its most celebrated clients.
