On an average day, a national sales manager may send emails to major clients, drive to store locations and supervise the daily sales operations, and conduct quality assurance tests to ensure company standards are being met. Giving seminars, attending national sales conferences and meeting with wholesalers and buyers are also part of the regular duties a person in this occupation participates in.
Skillset: National sales managers have strong backgrounds in sales, marketing and business leadership. They also possess an ability to establish long-term customer relationships with business clients and have exceptional communication skills. Strong writing skills and a background in formal sales training are desirable.
Education: Many national sales managers have masters degrees in marketing, business management or finance. Extended courses in retail demographics, fine arts and consumer science are highly recommended.
